Dawn Hallybone has been teaching for the last 17 years; over the last 4 years, she has made use of consumer off-the-shelf computer games within her classroom and her school. These have included, among others: Brian Training, Wild Earth African Safari, Professor Layton and Mario Kart.
Ms. Hallybone is also part of the Redbridge Games Network, a collection of schools that work together to share resources and ideas.
As well as console games, Dawn also uses programs such as Scratch and 2 DIY to enable children to create their own games and share these with others. She finds that using games within the classroom both engages and enhances the learning, and they are a valuable tool to promote learning.
Dawn was recognized for her work with the Special Achievement Award at the Hand Held Learning Awards in 2009.
