David Martin

David Martin has been the Head of the British Council Schools Programme since July of 2012. His team provides professional leadership to the organisation on all aspects of schools work. David maintains a particular interest in technology-based education dating back to his early career.

He previously worked as Director of the British Council in Pakistan, one of the British Council’s largest overseas offices. Before that he served as Director, Hungary from 2006-09, Director Central Africa (Zimbabwe, Zambia and Malawi) from 2002-06, Director, Palestinian Territories (1998-2002) and as Deputy Director, Nigeria (1994-1998).

David started his career as a Chemistry teacher near Sheffield. He was an early adopter of computers in education and moved into in-service training of teachers. He joined the British Council in 1988 as an Education Adviser, in which capacity he travelled extensively, including consultancy assignments in Pakistan, Nepal, Africa, the Caribbean and Central Europe.
